Jack E. O'Connor Memorial Scholarship

The Jack E. O’Connor Memorial Scholarship is offered by the Tidewater Chapter of Credit Unions to qualified graduating seniors who plan to attend a college or university. Several scholarships are awarded. To be eligible for this scholarship program, applicants must:

  • Be graduating seniors

  • Be a member of PortAlliance FCU or any other credit union in the Tidewater Chapter of Credit Unions

  • Be in need of financial assistance and must have made application to a college or university

Thomas Dunlap Memorial Community Enhancement Scholarship

On April 9, 2015, PortAlliance Federal Credit Union lost a dedicated & loyal board member. Mr. Dunlap served on the Board of Directors and the Education Committee as well as several other credit union committees for nearly 15 years, selflessly serving over 10,000 credit union members without one penny of compensation. He firmly believed in the power of education in furthering one's goals. This award is designed to help deserving students who demonstrate a commitment to the credit union's "people helping people" philosophy and an enthusiasm and committent to serving others. 

Two scholarships will be awarded to winners in April 2016.

Rev. Dr. Willie R. Ponds Sr. Memorial Scholarship Awards

Rev. Dr. Willie R. Ponds Sr. Memorial ScholarshipOn June 9, 2007, PortAlliance Federal Credit Union lost one of its most faithful members. Rev. Dr. Willie R. Ponds Sr. was a member of PortAlliance since 1961 and faithfully served on our Board of Directors for over 27 years. Rev. Ponds exemplified the credit union philosophy of “people helping people,” donating countless hours without financial compensation. Along with his dedication to PortAlliance’s members and the larger community, Reverend Ponds was especially known for his belief in the power of education. This scholarship is designed to help students who demonstrate a commitment to furthering themselves through education for the benefit of their community.

Two scholarship awards will be presented in April 2016.
