“People helping people” is the philosophy that PortAlliance Federal Credit Union and all other credit unions have embraced as a basis for operation. We believe strongly in the power of education in furthering one’s goals. Our Scholarship Program is designed to help students who demonstrate a commitment to the people helping people philosophy, an enthusiasm and commitment to learning and a clear, visionary path for their future.

 

Two scholarships will be awarded to PortAlliance Community Enhancement Scholarship winners in April 2011.

  Rev. Dr. Willie R. Ponds Sr. Memorial Scholarship Awards
 

On June 9, 2007, PortAlliance Federal Credit Union lost one of its most faithful members. Rev. Dr. Willie R. Ponds Sr. was a member of PortAlliance since 1961, and contributed to the success of the credit union in many ways. Rev. Ponds faithfully served on our Board of Directors for over 27 years. Rev. Ponds exemplified the credit union philosophy of “people helping people”, donating countless hours without any financial compensation. . He led the credit union in implementing policy, setting our course, and making decisions that benefited the entire membership. He was known for his kindness and dedication to serving so many in the community. Rev. Ponds believed in the power of education. This scholarship is designed to help students who demonstrate a commitment to furthering themselves through education for the benefit of their community.

 

Two scholarship awards will be presented in April 2011.

  Jack E. O'Connor Memorial Scholarship
   
 

The Jack E. O’Connor Memorial Scholarship is offered by the Tidewater Chapter of Credit Unions to qualified graduating seniors who plan to attend a college or university. Several scholarships are awarded. To be eligible for this scholarship program, applicants must:

  • Be graduating seniors
  • Be a member of PortAlliance FCU or any other credit union in the Tidewater Chapter of Credit Unions
  • Be in need of financial assistance and must have made application to a college or university

Applications are no longer being accepted for the 2010 Jack E. O'Connor Memorial Scholarship. Please check back for next year's award application.
